He has two wonderful daughters, Shannon and Jennifer, and in his spare time Terry enjoys hunting, tennis and golf. Crossing Paths in Recovery
About a year ago, a fellow who worked for the railroad named Jason H. came through EAI’s Supportive Residential program. A dedicated man, fully committed to his program, Jason earned the Senior House Leader position for House I. There he welcomed and acclimated new men to the program on a daily basis, giving back what was so freely given him through his twelve-step fellowship and treatment experience.
Upon Graduation, Jason turned the Senior House Leader reins over to another man, and returned to work at the railroad in his native Ohio. Months passed, and others filled the role of Senior House Leader, including a resident named Bob D. – also a railroader from Ohio.
Bob and Jason had never met – not in their addictions, nor in their time at EAI. Bob, like Jason, finished out his stay being the Senior House Leader, and then returned to his home state and occupation.
A couple of weeks ago, Bob D. had a day off from his railroad duties. His morning and afternoon itinerary was chalk full of meetings and fellowship. He was excited.
Just as he was leaving the house, the railroad called and said they needed him to come in; someone had called in sick, and they needed an alternate. Frustrated, Bob drove to the yard, boarding a train that was set for a 6-hour round trip. Guess who was sitting in the locomotive?
Jason H. quickly realized that Bob was in the program after just a moment of conversation. Soon after, they each discovered that the other was not only an EAI Alumnus, but also had been Senior House Leader for House I.
“It’s a small world in recovery,” mused Jason. “I’m in another state, light years away from the place where I got sober, and here sits this guy who has walked the exact same path that I have. We both lived in this area for years, and never knew each other…yet now, here we are.”
“I had been so angry about having to go into work,” explains Bob. “I’d wanted to go to 6 hours worth of meetings. Hell, Jason and I just had one long meeting all the way there and back. Amazing.”
A Ghoulish Halloween Affair At EAI, we ♥ our clients, and to celebrate All Hollow’s Eve, he staff joined the clients for an old fashioned pumpkin carving contest. Each client residence was given a pumpkin and creative license, within reason of course, to design and carve their prize winning entry.
Representatives from neighborhood establishments served as the judges, who claim they had a very difficult time determining a winner due to the amazing creativity.
“I never knew a pumpkin could look like that,” noted Stella Simo, co-owner of Simo’s Diner located next to EAI.
A fun time was had by all, and after the contest winners were announced, staff and residents enjoyed Halloween refreshments.
