Practicum Student Welcomed to EAI
Starting this year, Extended Aftercare will start hosting students hoping to complete training to become Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselors. Our first practicum student, Kevin Foley, has arrived and is fitting in quite nicely while getting the experience he needs.
“My first impression of EAI was how amazing and friendly everyone is,” expressed Kevin. “I’m very happy that Keith Liles is having me gain some experience with actual work around clients. I have always heard what an excellent program Extended Aftercare is and now I’m lucky enough to get to be a part of this place.”
We are happy to be able to pass our knowledge of the counseling and recovery business over to a young, eager man like Kevin and look forward to being a practicum provider to the future leaders in the chemical dependency treatment field.
2009 Program Evaluations
To be able to advance our services, Extended Aftercare must know where its strengths and weaknesses are. When a client completes our 90-day treatment program here at EAI, we ask them to fill out an evaluation of our services. With the start of 2010, we had the opportunity to look back at those Exit Interviews and appraise the different aspects of the program we provide clients.
2009 has been an excellent year for Extended Aftercare. The overall experience for clients was outstanding. Clients rated each category and subcategory using a five tier system (the worst being one, unsatisfactory and the best being five, excellent). Participants judged every facet of this company from their initial visit and clinical programming to personnel and recreational activities. Our overall performance as a company was one of the more gratifying figures. 91% of clients who graduated from Extended Aftercare rated their experience to be better than average; of that, 70% of clients felt EAI provided an excellent recovery experience.
The goals of last were met and surpassed by EAI and its staff. We made improvements to our physical plant, admissions experience, clinical program and recreational activities. The overall trend over the months of 2009 is positive, which supports the objective of this company: to continue making progress in helping people succeed in recovery.
New Staff Member At Extended Aftercare, Inc.
Help us welcome our newest staff member Anthony K. Davis to the Extended Aftercare family. Anthony actually started working with Extended Aftercare last year as one of our House Managers. He has recently made the transition to office staff as our new Admissions and Marketing Representative, utilizing his past experience and training.
Anthony is in recovery and grew up in Conroe, Texas. He is very active with the Extended Aftercare Alumni Association where he serves on the Board as the Editor of The Ragpicker Newsletter and as the Liaison to the EAI office. He also is a member of The ManKind Project and a representative of The Texas Youth Advocates.
Alumni In Action
The Extended Aftercare Alumni Association is always willing to lend a helping hand to the sober community. Lately, the EAAAI has been doing service work with Intergroup and IntraCare.
Every Thursday a small group of Alumni take an AA meeting to IntraCare Hospital. In the “lock-down” detoxification part of the hospital, Alumni members have the opportunity to introduce people, who are truly at a bottom, to Alcoholics Anonymous. The hope the Alumni bring to people is inspiring.
When someone is looking for a meeting, help or just another addict or alcoholic to talk to in the Houston area, they usually call Intergroup. Every 2nd Wednesday of the month Intergroup transfers their phones to the EAI Alumni at one of their houses on campus here. “People in need call and we are here to answer. The Alumni provides any help they need from information and meeting topics to something as simple as a friend who will listen,” proudly states Alumni President Kim S.
